We're passionate about tackling the social and environmental challenges that Africa faces. We develop our camps with the environment in mind. Our camps use either elegant wooden structures crafted from local, sustainable materials or light-weight star-gazer tents. The sleeping and living quarters are often open-sided, which draws in a cooling breeze and removes the need for noisy air conditioning. We use waterless composting or low water use toilets, which reduces chemical use.  Our bucket showers keep water wastage to a minimum. Hot water for cooking and washing is either solar heated or using firewood from fallen or dying trees. Finally, we take advantage of the sunny African weather through the use of solar lighting in our camps.

Glass and plastic containers are often given a second life in the communities we engage.  Non-recyclable waste is generally incinerated.  Organic waste is composted or buried in deep pits.

We also focus on the welfare of our employees and the communities surrounding our camps. Whenever possible, we work in partnership with local communities, leasing the land for our camps from them and managing it on their behalf rather than buying it outright. We employ mostly people from local communities as well, and work with them to develop their skills. Finally, we buy supplies locally whenever we can, which strengthens the economies of the places where we work.

We're always looking for new, innovative ways to improve the environmental and social performance of our camps.

We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and bring supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you'll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families.
